Evolving as a Teacher
This 4 week, online training brings a strong focus into the underlying psychology of qigong and evaluates ways in which we can continue to learn and evolve within the role qigong teacher.
Unlike the fully accredited course, joining this modular training will only provide you with a certificate of completion and we will not be asking you to submit work for marking and feedback. To find out more about the fully accredited training, please visit the Teacher Training page
Week 1 (12th Nov) – The 5 Aspects of Self model within teaching
This psychological model is an invaluable framework with which to explore the question of authenticity in the aspect of teaching qigong. It helps us to develop a far healthier relationship with the theories and practices while also helping us to better understand our role as a teacher in relation to the students.
Week 2 (19th Nov) – Combining approaches / Contraindications and Red Flags
Having spent 8 weeks exploring both western and eastern approaches, this session starts by recapping on the approaches and looking at the times when it’s suitable to combine approaches and when it is not. We will discuss common misconceptions and the resulting problems and how to get around them when teaching. From the question of combining approaches, we move into a more western paradigm and look at potential red flags that should be considered. This session will explore safe areas, questionable areas and no-go areas for practice on a physical, mental, relational and spiritual basis. Both of these areas will be looked at from the perspective of evolution as a teacher and will tie back into the communication skills that were taught in module 1, a Western Foundation
Week 3 (26th Nov) – Programme Planning
The 3rd week of the evolving as a teacher will explore programme and lesson planning. We will pick up on the ideas of learning spaces that were taught in the Eastern Foundation and explore ways to build suitable lesson and programme plans for a variety of different scenarios.
Week 4 (3rd December) – Presentation Week
Each month we will have one week that is run as a presentation week with peer feedback, In the Eastern foundation month we will be asking you to present for 3 minutes on the differences between western and eastern approaches to health. The presentations will be peer reviewed so this is also an opportunity to try out different teaching styles, share different perspectives and learn from each other.
