Teacher Training

Not just another Qigong Teacher Training…

  • Focussed on developing Teaching Skills that are relevant to teaching Qigong in a Western Environment.
  • Supporting you in developing your own teaching style based on core principles of both Qigong and teaching.
  • A true, blended approach that enables you to learn through your choice of pre recorded content, live online interactions and in person weekends.

Developed with our training and research partners in UK Universities.

Teaching Qigong is primarily about creating the space for change on a physical, emotional, energetic and spiritual level in ourselves and others.

We believe that teaching qigong is a unique combination of two complimentary skill sets. On the one hand we have the skills that we nurture through the Qigong practices, and on the other hand we have the skills that we continue to develop in teaching. In this programme we explore both skill sets.

In short, we don’t believe that simply knowing a form or the theory is enough to teach it, you need to develop your ability teach, to listen, to adapt and to tailor your classes for maximum benefit in a sustainable manner for you and your students. In so doing, you will have far greater impact, build a better reputation and give yourself the opportunity to build wonderful, fulfilling and transformative way of life.

You can please some of the people some of the time, but can’t please all of the people all of the time.”

John Lydgate, 1370 – 1450

How it works

In recent years we have seen an increasingly diverse range of qigong enthusiasts want to join our teacher training. Each person has different needs and objectives and while, as stated above, it’s not possible to please all the people all of the time, we have split our training down into the components that we feel make it most accessible and relevant for you.

We have also chosen to run the training based on a simple accessible set of Qigong movements that can be adapted to a broad range of needs and are recognisable within multiple styles of Qigong. This core set of movements is designed to be simple to learn, but supportive of lifelong learning. These movements are recognisable within a broad range of Qigong styles and offer the scope to develop the skills required to teach in a safe, authentic and beneficial manner.

All of this is delivered through our Skool Teachers Community to ensure it is accessible, and interactive as possible with ease of use. This training platform is not only reliable and logical, it’s accessible through both website and apps and works well on all platforms.

Components of our Training

Core Training

Consisting of 117 pre-recorded lectures and practice sessions (over 15 hours on content), this is the basis of our training.
Each module of the training is supported by manuals and additional reading, making this one the most comprehensive programmes available.

Live online support

Each year we take a cohort of people through the Core Training over an 8 month period.
Every week we meet to discuss the lectures and ideas, share practice and learn from each other in a structured way that supports deeper learning .

Live in person weekends

We offer two weekends:

  • The first, Basic of Qigong Teaching weekend introduces the forms and key ideas used in the training.
  • The concluding Teacher’s Weekend is less formal, offering space to practice and learn with fellow teachers.

Sunday Sessions for Teachers

On the first Sunday of every month we facilitate an online space for those interested in teaching Qigong to meet, discuss and share practice.
Regardless of where you are on your teaching journey, this is a wonderful resource available through our Skool community.

Accreditation Process

In order to become accredited through the Qigong Academy as a Qigong Teacher, we need you to complete the Core training, live online support programme and partake in the in-person weekends. At this point, we will then continue to work with you in order to gain accreditation (which is dependent on final assessment).

Active Online Community

Although not an active part of Teacher Training, The Skool platform with it’s built in forum and messaging functionality makes keeping in contact with your tutors and peers simple and effective.
It also means that you become part of a supportive community that will remain with you long after your formal training.

Structure of the Core Training

To better understand the way we divide up the Core Training, we have provided a short description and sample video below for each module below.

Movements

Throughout the training we include practice sessions based on 4 key movements that underpin the majority of Qigong practice.

Western Foundation

Starting out by focussing on communication skills in order to help develop teaching methods and an overview of Western Anatomy and Physiology in order to better understand how to lead practice in a well informed, safe way.

Eastern Foundation

From the Western Foundation, this section starts with an exploration of learning spaces in relation to Qigong before taking a slightly deeper dive into Chinese Medicine and concept of Qi.

Instructor as a Student

Expanding on the concept of Qi and looking at how we can teach in a safe, sustainable way while ensuring we remain open to learning and self development.

Practical Preparations

Starting with an exploration of the basic of working as a Qigong teacher in western society including health and safety, record keeping and marketing, this section concludes with an exploration of Qi fields and group coherence.

Living Qigong

Taking time to understand the origins of Qigong and the evolution of the practice helps us to better understand what it is to live a life informed by principles rather than rules.

The Art of Teaching

Starting to explore the more subtle aspects of teaching that arise through self-awareness, the ability to listen to others and finding ways to work that are truly sustainable and transformative.

Refining the Art

Including sections on the power of storytelling and vulnerability, this section adds more colour and depth to the already familiar concepts from the rest of the course and weaves the strands of the training together.

Embracing the role

As the course draws to a close, we revisit key themes, review content and ask how this can training can support you in embracing the role of a Qigong Teacher

A Brief History of our Training

Back in 2011, three friends who taught Zhineng Qigong got together to develop a teacher training programme for Zhineng Qigong teachers. With decades of experience of both practice and teaching between them, it took 18 months to develop and launch our training through the Three Monkeys School of Qigong.

This successful, in-person training programme continued to develop and evolve over the years and then in 2020, with the massive rise in online teaching caused by the Covid Lockdown, we had to rethink the whole way we operated.

This rethink saw the launch of the Qigong Academy, and in 2022 the Qigong Academy partnered with the University of Wales Trinity St David to develop a blended learning course which had the depth and focus to address the changing face of Qigong in the post covid age.

This new approach offered far greater levels of contact due to the rise in live-streaming, it took the best parts of the previous training and wove it together with a growing understanding of the issues around online learning, and the results far exceeded our expectations and those of the attendees.

Due to the growing international reputation of our course, in 2025 we decided to make another significant shift in our training in order to make the core content available as an online course that can be taken in three different ways in order to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse audience. So now you can choose a range of ways to interact with this training course in a way that meets your needs

Meet your Instructor

Hello, my name is John.

– Why should I trust you?
– Your journey to qigong as well as zhineng?
– How long are your practicing?
– What is your motivation to offer teacher training and are you qualified enough?
– Who is John really? Create near to customer … bit more personal stuff….

What are you looking for?
Are we the right choice for you?

In general terms, the following should help you to decide if what we offer meets your needs and what parts of the training are for you, but please reach out if you have any questions or would like to have a chat with us.

  • To sharpen up your teaching skills
The Core Training and the Sunday Sessions are a perfect combination as is the first of the Live In Person Weekends
  • Structured training and support in deeper learning
The combination of the Core Training and Live Online Support would be a great fit, and the Sunday Sessions would offer a wonderful addition to this.
  • Full accreditation
If you’re wanting accreditation then you will need to combine all of the components of the training including two in person weekends. This will typically take between 12 and 18 months to complete including the mentoring phase that kicks in after the Live One Support.
  • Ongoing Support
If you are concerned about what level of support that is offered beyond the formal training, our Skool Teachers community is a wonderful space which offers structure Peer supervision, monthly meet ups with other teachers (including those who run the teachers training) and loads of additional resources and training options.

It’s great for you if you…

  • want to teach in a safe, effective and well-informed manner
  • value community and ongoing support from other teachers
  • want to develop skills to support your personal growth while supporting others in finding the true benefits of qigong

Not the best choice if you…

  • are not willing to commit to self development and teaching
  • are more interested in learning details of practice than teaching skills
  • not willing to approach teaching and learning as a dialogue that supports mutual learning.

What the customers say

  • Taking this course has given me so much more than just the knowledge and skill to become a Qigong Teacher – it has helped me to grow personally and professionally. So much of what we learnt by enhancing and gaining a deeper understanding of Qigong, through both the practice and academic studies, has supported the development of skills highly transferable into other areas of my life.
The course has forced me out of my comfort zone, stretching and challenging me. I have researched topics I had no awareness and knowledge of before now, explored my own thoughts and opinions, and evaluated alternative perspectives – all of which has helped me to expand my world view and my potential.
Overall, I was very impressed with the course, and I am pleased I took a chance on the Qigong Academy. I feel I have not only invested in myself to become a Qigong Teacher but also on so many other levels which I would never have anticipated!

Some more formal stuff & FAQs

We normally suggest that you have at least two years experience of qigong before setting out on this training, but if you have experienced genuine benefits from practicing Qigong for a shorter time and would like to teach, you are also welcome to join.

You can find out more details about this in our Prospectus

At present we do not offer insurance. As the community grows we will be in better position to partner with an insurance provider and we will announce progress on this in due course.

The most important thing that we ask you to do is to take on a regular practice and explore the ideas we present in order to build your understanding in key areas.

If you are on the Self Supported pathway, we ask you to take time with the review points so that you can reflect on the concepts and enhance your understanding.

If you are on the Supported Learning pathway, we ask you to do the following:
Prepare short presentations/teaching sessions to share within the group each month.

  • Complete home study tasks and submit your ideas in a media of your choice in the timescales provided.
  • Start keeping track of your regular practice so that you can notice the way in which this changes over time.
  • Set up and run a small Qigong class (in line with our Code of Conduct) to develop your teaching skills.

On the accreditation pathway, we expect you continue running classes and keep in contact with your mentor so that you can work together towards assessment.

At present, the training is only certified by the Qigong Academy. We are an insured training provider and this is based on the combination of our Prospectus and Code of Conduct.

We are in the process of finding a suitable professional or accrediting body to align our training with and as soon as we find a suitable partner, we will update everyone.

The best thing to do is to get in contact and arrange to have a chat, but you can research more using the following links:

The modular nature of the training makes payment by instalment slightly impractical, however we will make all reasonable effort to prevent financial constraints from preventing anyone from accessing our training. Please contact us for me information.

All lecture and presentation sessions on the Supported Learning pathway are recorded and are available for the relevant cohort to watch in their own time.

While we would encourage you to join every session, we appreciate that things happen, so we are happy for you to miss the occasional session.

The core training material will remain accessible for the duration of your Skool membership.

For those on the Supported Learning Pathway we keep the recordings for 1 year.

Downloaded materials are for your personal and you are only permitted to share these with written permission from the Qigong Academy.

Membership of the Skool Teachers Community ensures that you retain contact with peers, tutors and fellow teachers.

Additional support is also available through the monthly Sunday Sessions, Peer Supervision and Mentoring can be booked through the Qigong Academy for anyone who has participated in the Supported Learning Pathway.

In short no.

We train you teach a generic form of qigong and the accreditation is for a general, as opposed to a specific qigong style.

If you require permission to teach in a specific style, we can offer you accreditation in a number of styles based on the tutors who are aligned with us (e.g. Zhineng). This type of accrediation may require additional training and will have additional costs associated with the accreditation.
