An Eastern Foundation for Teaching
This 4 week, online training develops a foundation in the eastern approach to teaching qigong, brining focus to the concepts of qi and the basics of Chinese Medicine.
Unlike the fully accredited course, joining this modular training will only provide you with a certificate of completion and we will not be asking you to submit work for marking and feedback. To find out more about the fully accredited training, please visit the Teacher Training page
Week 1 (15th Oct) – Qi and Qi field theory
All too often the idea of qi is somewhat esoteric and difficult to express in a way that is both understandable and beneficial for students. This week explores the etymology of the character, the difference between dynamic and subtle qi and ways of directing qi both individually and in a group scenario.
Week 2 (22nd Oct) – Creating Learning Space
Building on the previous weeks introduction to the concept of qi field, we explore the idea of learning spaces and how to create different types of learning spaces that will work for different learning styles (a topic covered in the Western Foundation module)
Week 3 (29th Oct) – An introduction to Chinese Medicine
While this is not a course in Chinese Medicine, it is important as a qigong teacher, to have a basic understanding of the principles involved and this week takes the concept of qi from the previous weeks and expands this into the basic theories of Chinese Medicine so that we have a useful framework from which to teach.
Week 4 (5th November) – Presentation Week
Each month we will have one week that is run as a presentation week with peer feedback, In the Eastern foundation month we will be asking you to present for 3 minutes on the concept of qi aimed at a beginners class. The presentations will be peer reviewed so this is also an opportunity to try out different teaching styles, share different perspectives and learn from each other.
